the weight of the van??

not quite got the weight of the world on my shoulders but the weight of my van keeps popping into my head every now and then.

So, how much extra weight do you think a average camping conversion adds to standard weight (whatever that is) of a T25? Does this affect the tyre pressure guidelines and does it put the engine under extra, potentially harmful strain?

I've got a 83 Autohomes Air-Cooled Kamper and got a horrible feeling there's a lot of weight in the roof, early 80s design and materials! - the interior units dont seem to have been particularly designed to be lightweight either...

anyone actually weighed their van?

According to the manual I have, your Kamper is:
Gross vehicle weight: 2390kg
Unladen weight: 1809kg
Load capacity: 581kg
Unladen weight includes full fresh water and petrol tank, two gas bottles, tools and spare wheel.

You have to take into account the 'heaviest' the van is ever likely to be....so it is the Gross vehicle weight that is most useful when buying tyres/wheels etc. The basic vehicle is a van so was designed to take the load so to speak, so as a camper they are not really as heavy as they could potentially be (if that makes sense) tyre pressures etc are worked out on average load conditions...I would say more or less what a Camper weighs so no alterations are necessary. Yes extra weight is extra strain but thats the same for any vehicle, just take it steady and get in to 'Camper driving mode' lol

:ok thanks everybody - loads of info there. I suppose its a bit like driving around with a half full van all the time. I've dried out and sealed the roof now so that should lighten a little! (i'm ignoring the 2.5kg of combicolor i've put on top - thanks covkid et all for the recomendations!)

Thanks for the precise info Fozzie!
