Blower? Switch?

HI all. Been enjoying the snow and it finally got me motivated to repalce the blower switch in my van so as I have warm air when I want it rather than only when I'm on the move. Put the new switch in, turned it on and ... naff all! Not a sound. Stripped the old switch and found that the contacts were covered in melted plastic  Re-checked the fuses and they are definately ok. I've done some reading up on the site and not looking too hopeful...how easy is really to strip the dash board? Honestly! I want to be able to do it of an afternoon as I the vans a daily driver. So could I do it as a complete mechanical novice - no doubt with "help" from the kids?

Totally enjoyed the snow though...want more of it as we don't get much in Cornwall so every snow day should be work and school free.

Thanks in advance for the advice!!

Willard

Hmmm... :D
If you go like stink then yes it is possible! Only problem is when you get the whole lot out, take apart the air distributor unit, wang out the blower motor only to find its fubarred... Burnt out possibly.
On a brighter note, the bearings may just need oiling but be prepared to put the dashboard back in without anything else until the blower problem is sorted... Then it can all go back in! :D

if, unlike me, you dont have loads of added wiring and equipment on the dash, you should be able to do it in a afternoon, the biggest problem is getting some of the screws undone, big phillips ones holding the heaterbox can be buggers too, a large long handles driver needed.......... remember that not all heater boxes can be opened easily, some are "magic'd" shut!!!

dont forget to undo the earth wire for the heater motor BTW!

Thanks for the info. Now I'm really looking forward to the challenge :? Might make it a saturday job and disappear for the weekend...or just live with a "cool" van!

Cheers

getting the dash of aint too bad,the steering column unbolts and the steering wheel rests on the drivers seat, first tho i would get a circuit tester on the plug behind the switch to see if theres power to it

It depends if the dash has been out before. When I had trouble with the blower just followed the guide in the wiki it was easy but the van had a full in and out respray sometime so it had been stripped and replaced before. Got the blower to work and put it back together only for it to pack up again next day. Stripped it all out again (even easier second time around). The brushes on the motor were stuck, drop of wd40 and bobs your uncle, no trouble since. If its a daily driver and the dash hasn't been out before I'd do it at the weekend, and test and retest the blower before you put it back together.
