I just got off ebay one of these

12volt 19" Digital Freeview TV+Portable DVD Player 12 V

Plays DVDs well and good pic quality and low watts (49 in fact) as well as 12V

So if you are looking for one, I can recommend one of these

Hope you didnt pay to much. if anyone wants a TV for there van, some of the ones in supermarkets have boxes in the power lead if you read the box you will find they are 12v and arround 5 amp (depends on screen size) just look in the lorry section on the services and you ll get a cigarette lighter adaptor or cut the wire and make your own. or failing that an inverter will do the same.

It does record to usb flash drive? Specs says "USB port / Memory card reader" is why I ask.

Our home dvd player has usb and we love it. Download movie, put on stick and watch
I tried hooking a usb hdd to it, but no joy.

Looks like a nice set. Only thing missing is HD tuner.

Thats a good low power tv at 4 amps! Like the idea of putting dvds on a usb, how many films can you put on one ? My van tv was a supermarket one so cant but i have a dvd stereo head unit and run the tv on a phono lead from that, just make sure you fuse the tv (49w = 4amps) so i would put a 5 amp fuse on it

This depends on the size of your USB stick (8gb is quite cheap now) and on the compression ratio.
You could go as low as 1gb per dvd.
Alternative pick up a low cost 2.5" external hard drive (laptop type), these offer good storage (500gb for about 60 quid) and don't consume much power.

I think it goes onto USB pen, there is no internal Hardrive.

Seems to play anything you chuck at it

A 16GB pen will hold about 17 films @ 700mb each Compressed using Divx

16GB pens cost about £18 on ebay

I really like the look of that, my only question is where did you mount it? I live in London where if you leave anything on show some little scumbag would break in and nick it. I had an idea of mounting it behind the drivers seat on some form of runner that could be elevated so you can watch it but put back down when not in use, but I can't think where or how I'd get a hinge/runner that'd do that.

My tv hangs on a bracket i made that is mounted on the wooden surround aound the hole into the roof (if that makes sense??) I can then simply remove it and pack it away (could take some pics if you want ?????)
