problem filling up

Ok, being new to this LPG gas and being blonde i went to fill up last night at one of the local ish Shell stations.
Ok set it all up and pressed the button, and it started the mahcine, then it slowy started filling up, 1p 2p 3p 4 p but very very slow after 10 minutes it got up to 10p so im thinking ive done something wrong???went into station and asked if someone can help me, nah health and safety.
So took it all out and started again, same again took 20 mins to get to 22p, i went into the station and they said they cant do owt for health and safety reasons again, but i told them that it could be there machine and she said it wasnt and its how i have connected it up-but surely it wouldnt realese anything if i had connected it wrongly or would it be slow llike it was?
I was less them impressed with the garage and i feel very  if i was doing something wrong.
However, i went to another garage and it went in first time no problems.
So i guess im just asing if it would of released the gas if it was connect wrongly?hence being my fault or do u think the pump couldve been faulty?
Thanks in advance
Katie x

There's a Shell station near us that I've tried twice for lpg, several months apart. Both times the pump didn't work, even when I drove the van round to the other side of it and tried there as well. The staff were fecking clueless and unhelpful. I don't go there anymore. :x

I rang the garage to report it and the lady cashire, the manmager told me he was very sorry but there was a porblem with the pump and that if i wanted to go back today he would show me how to use it
i said i had gone somewhere else to fill up and that i more than likely wouldnt be going back there anytime soon :?
