i`m getting to the stage where i need to fit a new roof vent to the westy poptop. the origonal one has been fiberglassed over and i want to put one back in.

looked at the fiamma catalog but was hoping for some feed back and ideas from you guys first before i order anything.

Do you want an original type one, or anything that will fit ? See your post on BY for first option. Most roof-lights are made to fit in a lot thicker roof than yours, so watch what the minimum thickness of roof is that they can accomodate.

would rather fit a modern vent poss double glazed with bug mesh but not anything that will look stupid if you know what i mean.having had a bit of a search i see what you mean about the roof thickness thanks for the tip.

I have a rather old fiamma roofvent on my viking which could do with replacing. Looking at my in-laws caravan and some i-net searching I like the look of the Heki mini rooflight. They come with bug screen and blackout blind and are around £70 so more expensive but better looking and more aerodynamic- like that matters with my roof

Caravans / motorhomes usually have a thick roof though, made up of an outer skin, some insulation and and inner skin, making it well over an inch thick. That`s why most skylights aimed at that market are made in two pieces and have to be fitted from inside and out, so the two halfs of the framework screw together to sandwich the thick roof. This won`t work on a thin fibreglass roof, unless you`re prepared to make a wooden frame type thing to take up the slack, which would look crap.

A mate of mine has a brand new Westy Pop top one from Gunzel, which was bought in error.

I think he wants £60, give me a pm if you wnat his details.

hi guys. while we are on the subject of westy roof vents i am also looking for one to go on my high top, its the telescopic extending screw part, or do i have to buy the whole vent, and from where. ??? cheers rick.

any of you guys got a non vented westy poptop, just wondering wether i could actually get away with not fitting a vent at all. pretty sure there`d be enough ventillation with the canvess but i`m also going to be buying a thermo screen for the roof tent and not having used one of these before i`m unsure of the effect they have on the ventilation.

My pop top has no vent and that's fine for camping, but then I don't sleep upstairs. However the problem I now have is with mould growing inside the roof over winter so maybe a vent would stop that.

I got a new one for mine from Gowesty and was only about £50 at the time when it was $2 to a £1 and that included P&P from the states, and the good thing was it just bolted inplace of the old one.
30 mins and job was done.
