another ignition question

I've been having trouble with my T3 since I bought it, most every time it goes out in the wet it cuts out, not straight away
it'll let me do 100 miles before it's had enough
so far I've replaced the distributor cap and rotor arm, all the plgug leads
everything get soaked in ignition sealer regulary, even when it's not raining
last time I took the king lead off of the coil I noticed it was as rusty as hell :roll:
so now my question, can i clean out the rust and reuse it, or will I have to buy another coil
is the rusty end of the coil likely to be the cause of my problems, also if I clean it out, is it OK to grease the king lead terminal
and if grease is OK, would it matter, high melting point grease, copper grease

nothing to stop you cleaning the coil connections, but dont use anything conductive, ie, not a wire brush or wire wool??
best thing i have found is "superservisol" contact cleaner

not sure how you are getting all this water in the ignition tho..... have you checked the earths to the ignition loom, one on the top of the head that side maybe, and possibly one under the coil......

bad earths will react badly to wetness as much as positives

In theory yes you could clean the coil post, but it would only be a temporary cure.
As for grease the best thing is petroleum jelly, :shock: its also good for all electrical connections

If the resistance of the coil is raised, the coil will tend to overheat and can then breakdown.

Bite the bullet and fit a new coil, but please make sure it is the correct one for your vehicle.
