My mechanic has let me down so many times, that me and my brother are going to put the cylinder head on . Before my brother makes the trek to me, I need to tell him what tools he'll likely need... Can anyone advise?

Might help if peeps knew which breed of engine you have ? I assume from the singular 'Head' that it's a Satan's excretion burner (diesel ) ?

Torque wrench unless you're good at guessing settings and basically a metric toolkit in the 12mm (13's can rust down to that!) to 17mm range. Should be all you need.

To get the old exhaust studs out of my DG heads I used every socket from 7mm up to 14mm ... with the obvious exception of 13

A torque wrench, a 15mm socket and extension, an 11mm socket. Some fine emery to clean the barrel face and the head face. Some grease to stick the head seals in.
Ignore the 'no seal' brigade.
It will be too complicated to remove the barrels and grind them in, so don't just clean it all up as much as poss. Cans of brake cleaner are great for getting rid of "pooh".

Make sure you back off the tappets, this is where all the problems started. Your bloke set solids as hydraulics.
