This is probably a stupid question, but does my 1982 Aircooled have 'points', what ARE points? It has a distributor, yes? What about a condensor?

No you dont have any contact breaker points in your distributor, a( Condensor is to stop the points from burning or should stop them from bieng welded to-gether)
you should have an electronic contactless distributor, twin vacume (2 small pipes at bottom of dissy)
unless some one has changed it at some time.
your 1982 Aircold is the 2lte CU ??????????
