2 litre CU air cooled, electronic ignition
Did some welding the other day and forogot to disconnect the battery
Bus has been standing for a over a month and won't start now, we've checked the the coil and it checks out ok with an ohmeter , but get no spark when you short it to the engine block while you turn it over

any ideas ?
could we have fried the little ecu ?

it is entirly possible that you have fried the box of magic, it is also possibel you have not.
Have you tried disconnecting the idle stablisation unit by plugging the leads together to eliminate that?

Tried a few things, and there doesn't seem to be any life at the coil feed.
Reversing lights are not working either, which seems to point to the ignition switch ?
I replaced the starter over the weekend, maybe I've missed a wire off that?
Does the feed for the coil connect with the starter in any way?
cheers

bypass the ignition switch, emiminate that!
Get a bulb and wire, see when there is live to the coil, remember lives are always black on a VW, browns are neg!
reversing lights will be the wire off the switch on the gearbox, which you mayhave caught whilst doing the starter motor, it happens

will try bypassing the ignition tomorrow
just tried the indicators and they don't work either, although the hazard warning lights do ?
also tried fuses 11 and 12, both ok , but no feed to them with ignition switched on, reverse engaged and indicators on

either feed from ignition switch, or feed to fusebox. Still think its the switch

changed the ignition switch and ICU
still no-go
then traced the wires from the coil and found a black wire going through the westy warddrobe and behind the ZIG unit, which I had ripped out and disconnected the wires behind it. Touched it to the battery terminal while jaz turned the engine over and it fired up, hooray

Looks like someone before me had run a temporary wire to the coil at some point and I'd disconnected it when pulling the units out
oh well, lesson learnt at least it runs again
