T25 slows from 40/50 to 10/20 for no apparent reason.

Help,

My 81 T25 is behaving very oddly.

Everything appears fine going along an A road at about 50 and without me changing anything that i am doing, she slows down to about 10/20miles an hour and after a while (the period of time varies 2-10mins ) she will chugg a bit then continue at normal speed.

I've changed the fuel filter. You can smell that alot of pertrol is still getting through but she just doesn't have any go for a while.

Has anyone suffered any simular problems? If so how did you fix it.

Thanks

Or where would be the best garage for me to try to get the thing too? I'm in Chatham, Kent

As previous reply. Although my problem with muck in needle/float valve caused fuel starvation. It got a lot worse so get it sorted SAP.
Good Luck

I had this problem on my old engine but stopped when I put another in. I think it's the fuel pump, or I did on my old one and as they don't do rebuild kits anymore it could be a bit tricky. I was going to go down the route of an electric one but when I changed the engine I didn't have to. I didn't change the engine just because of the fuel pumo by the way! I put the same carbs back on, the same old fuel lines were on the van, the only thing changed was the pump and it now works. What I did notice though, and what I think it could have been is this - right next to the fuel pump is a hot air feed to the inlet manifold on the carb, a piece of tin stuck on the back of the tinware. I thought on my old one it could have been leaking very hot air onto the pump causing the fuel to heat up and evaporate. On mine, because I'm on gas and rarely on petrol, if it was heating up for ages then there would have been hardly any petrol getting to the carbs, hence the 10 - 20 mph thing. Very scary on the motorway! The tinware on my new engine is all sealed so it hasn't happened yet. One thing to look at anyway, along with cleaning the carbs out, checking there are no air leaks in the petrol pipe, no water in the tank or the tank outlet being blocked by debris. Just check the tinware though, you can lie on your back and see it, no need to jack up or take the wheels off.

hi, I've got the same problem with mine - a bit scary when it happens in the middle lane of the M6! I've had it in the local garage without any joy, so got it booked in to Brickwerks in Holmfirth in a couple of weeks time. I'll let you know what they say.

hi
don't know if this helps but i had the exact same problem and spent 8hrs travelling back from aberdeen at 20mph i tried everything to no avail. the problem seemed so obvious in the end and couldnt beleive i didn't think of it. it turned out to be a bit of sludge floating around in the tank blocking the fuel getting out the tank. Easy way to check this is to remove the fuel feed pipe and if the fuel runs free then it's probably not this but when i removed mine there was hardly a drop getting through. to fix the easy way just ram a pipe cleaner up there and it should free the blockage. i chose to remove the whole fuel tank and degrease the whole thing (killing the grass in the back yard at the same time) things have been perfect ever since.

good news if it is this is it's A FREE FIX

good luck dave

this is what mine has been doing i will drive it for five min then it will just play up then cut out and does thesame standing but if i hold the choke on it will continue to run i have had the carb off recently could i have got some dirt ect in the float chamber causing a fuel starvation im really stumped with it now and its my only form of transport other than my bike. so i need it running.

It turned out to be water in the fuel tank, caused by the filler neck not being properly attached. Had no problems at all since it was sorted out. Hope your solution is as simple.
