My steering wheel is making a scraping noise when i turn it. Its defo an internal noise. Any ideas what i need to look at?
This bloody van is doing my head in at the moment. Its jst one thing after another... It doesn't seem to appreciate all the christmas money and savings I have thrown at it recently. Also got a juddering clutch, worse when its warm and a bloody sticking accelerator- down to knackered cable conduit i'm told.
Sorry, just winjing. Makes you wonder whether it is good to use these vehicles as everyday drivers..mmm Right off to give it a wash n wax to hopefully make me love it again...

think I can help with the steering wheel scrape, mine was just as simple as the contact for the horn wearing badly and just needed to pop the wheel off have a quick go with a bit of sand paper and hey presto.

quick notes, if you do pop the steering wheel off make sure its dead centre when you take off so you know how to put back on and make sure you tighten the thing back up properly!!

to get to the steering wheel nut on mine you just gently prise the horn off

Loose or badly fitted cowling can also cause this.

Kathy, I've got a reasonable steering wheel with a good horn contact strip if you need it, no charge to you. But it's in the lockup so it'll be next w/e before I can get it I think if required.

thanks everyone. I'll try and prize the horn off the centre tommorrow (This is a standard larger steering wheel so i presume thats right?) and see if i can see anything wrong and report back.

Once off......wipe the horn ring and contact with something like WD40 to remove old grease/grit.....I bend the contact slightly so it touches in a different place....then apply a thin film of vasoline or LM grease (don't leave it dry whatever you do) refit and tighten the wheel.
