I want to add the JX TD manifolds to a 1Y engine and keep it looking standard - but it's difficult finding them!. So, here's my question ... Is the intake manifold on all of the flavours of the 1.6TD the same i.e. - is the one on the JX engine the same as the one late 80's/early 90' Golf either GTD or straight TD - and is this the same as the intake manifold on the 1.9TD engine from the early 90's period.

Then - smae question but for the exhaust manifold - I realise different turbos were used - but is the difference in exahaust due to the type of turbo or the type of engine ...or both.

In simple terms, is there another vehicle I can go to and get identical parts to a JX engine intake & exhaust manifold? Steve

Bit late but........... NO, JX manifolds are unique to that engine, not fitted to any other TD engine. The turbo is placed at the end of the JX exhaust manifold because of clearance issues, Golf/Passat etc have the turbo placed in the middle of the manifold, which if used it interferes with the engine mount in a van The JX inlet manifold will fit onto the AAZ or 1Y (or other 1.9TD engines) BUT you`ll need to alter the ports slightly so they match up with the ports in the head (people use the AAZ manifold gasket as a pattern to mark where to remove the material, then use a die-grinder or Dremel to do it) BUT this leaves some thin areas around the port edges in the manifold, so you have to build up these areas, either with alloy welding or something strong enough like epoxy putty etc (JB Weld is good stuff) All easy stuff for someone who has the knowledge to do their own engine swap without drama, it`s just nuts n bolts at the end of the day.
