Looking at taking a few night in Arran in the next two weeks.
Does anyone have any campsite recommendations on the island, i should add that my wife has very exacting standards when it comes to the facilities, so toilet and shower blocks have to be spotless.

We went there a couple of years ago in the bus.

We got the ferry from Ardrossan into Brodick and then drove down to Kildonan where there is a campsite right on the beach with fab views over to the Ailsa Craig. Theres a really nice hotel next door to the site which did great food and had a bar. Can't really remember the loo block though, might have been a bit basic, but can't really remember that well (too much time in the bar probably).

Then we went up the west coast to Lochranza which was again lovely. The campsite there is on part of the golf course and deer roam wild over it. I seem to remember the loo block was perfectly OK here but not a brand new shiny place.

Not sure if either of these are open in the winter though.

We loved Arran and would love to go back.

You might find some good reviews/info on UKCampsite.

Like the gamwells, we stayed on the site at Kildonan which is called Seal Shore Campsite. Facilities are basic but adequate, quite clean and well maintained but, with it being right on the beach it seemed that they struggled to keep the toilet/showers floor free from sand which when wet turned into a thin layer of mud. Other than that it was fine especially with it having the hotel next door.

There is loads of wid camping on Arran too, save yourself a few quid.

but looks like Arran site are closed this early in the season so going snowboarding in aviemore instead. lol

will try arran in the summer months.

Liking the look of Arran. Might have to consider going this year as we were struggling to come up with a plan of where to go. Is it likely to struggle with the midge problem? If so when woud be best times to go/avoid?

We went in early June which was before they get too bad I think.

We made up a net curtain that we put across the door on a cheap curtain pole (sealed it up at the sides with some blobs of velcro) and some mesh panels which we put over the front windows with some velcro. We still use the one over the door to keep all sorts of flying creepy crawlies out (gives us something to twitch when nosing at the neighbours as well - you know the sort of thing - "if I was putting a tent up I wouldn't be putting it there etc...").

The Kildonan campsite is right on the beach so may have a breeze so you probably won't get the midge there anyway, the Lochranza site is at the head of the loch in the valley so you may get them there.

It's a fab place.

I would do. When we went last August we pre booked, good job as the ferry back was full t'brim.

We stayed at the Kildonan Seal Shore site and we had NO midges at all due to it being right on the coast. Heading west from Kildonan there are one or two small free car parks where you can stay for nowt and you get a great spot for seal spotting as well

It is a lovely place, great for kids with the spotless beaches and crystal clear rock pools. If you do go check out the Corrie Hotel at Corrie, great food and, (if the weather is good to you), a really top beer garden right on the edge of the beach.

We're going back again this year, not sure when but, definetly going back
