Evening all

Have had my 1988 panel van for a few years now and have always had really squeeky front springs (or what i assume to be squeeky springs).

Is there anything I can do to stop it?

its prob the top wishbone bushes chap.

Your upper suspension arm will have 2 round bushes, one on each side. You could try spraying some white grease or silicone lubricant in them, usually keeps them quiet!
Wouldnt recommend Wd40 as it may have a softening effect on the rubber.

Cheers guys, am going to change all the bushes soon any how so should sort it. Going to get them from Brickwerks me thinks.

He! He! Bit of a lottery this one! Quite a few people have replaced these... Only to find they start squeaking as well!

Good idea to change them anyway, all rubber bits will be getting a bit worn by now.

Yup but unless they're worn out, you could go to a whole heap of effort only to get the squeak again. There are plenty of us that have 'the squeak' so you're not alone. Try the silicon spray first - lot simpler. Road humps often set them off.

The top wishbone rubbers are a bit of a weak point...fortunately failed bushes are easy to spot: look from the front of the suspension at the large top allen key bolt going through the centre of the bush....it should be pretty central in the bush..however, if the head of the bolt is visably and substantially off center it almost definately is knackered! and the pair on that side needs changing (you could argue that if one side has gone the other side won't be far behind) but that's up to you. Geometry (camber and tracking will need re-setting afterwards)

i have lowered the bus and got the tracking set but not the camber, this was over a year ago now and have not yet noticed any wear to my tyres.

Should I get the camber checked out to be safe?

Sounds like you're close enough not to worry about it. As said before, these aren't highly tuned racers - more like builders vans

Front wheels should be straight vertical. The link above explains all.
