Hello, i've been looking into why my rev counter is not working. Spent most of the day checking and checking and checking what it could be. Ive been told its got the wrong alternator! Its the wrong one for the T25 Turbo Diesel, i need one for the rev output on the back? So can anyone help with this. I phoned GSF for a new one, but they need to know what the code is on the old one! This is no good as its got the wrong Alternator one on it. I need a alternator with a rev output. So any ideas, Could it go on what the amp output is? Help please thanks :(

ok....as a suggestion, try giving VW a ring with your registration...chassis number if you have it. Then ask for a alternator part number / model number for that model?

Does that help?

(ps we are all petrol so can't help)

That my next move iam going to make. Just been on the to GSF and all they keeped asking me for was the part no. on the old unit. And i said this will be no good as its not got the rve output on it so it will be the wrong one? Am i right thinking this.
Ive just been told that the rev output on back is a (W teminal)? But i need to know the amps to get the right one for a 1.6 TD ?

If you have a T25 with a Rev counter could you please if poss take a photo of the back of the alternator so i can see the rev output (W Terminal i think). The only reson iam asking this is. When i looked on the back of my Alt its got a 'W' stamped on the back next to a slot. But it dont look like it can use it?? Cheers

The rev counter doesn't rely on amps, it relies on frequency from the windings. So the amps bit doesn't matter, just get one with the connection as shown above! :D

I cannot beleive how hard it is to find a alternator with this 'W terminal'!! This is becoming a joke. Been down to GSF, local car shop and euro car parts. All of them cannot get one. I need to find out what the AMP output is with my 1990 Whitestar 1.6TD? Help if poss cheers

65 or 90A I think.

You could always try an auto electrician. They might be able to retrofit a W to your existing alt, it shouldn't be too hard if you've got the hole in the caseing.
