A few issues with my T25

Hi ive got a few issues with my T25,nothing major but wouldnt mind sorting them out before the mot runs out in a couple of months.

When driving along the steering moves abit from left to right by itself, when obviously it should be tight and go straight. My first thought is play in the steering rack, anyone else think what it could be?

The guy i bought the van off jet washed the floor in the cab as it was filthy, now the handbrake light flickers on and off. Will it just be a sensor?

When i start the van in a morning its hard to rev up and sounds like its running on 3 cylinders, though i dont think it actually is. Its a 1.9 watercooled single carb model,im thinking it might be just because its got a carb rather than injection? (I had an old vauxhall car with a carb and that was abit dodgy when first started)

Any help is appreciated! :D

Steering rack bushes may be shot, get a set of the powerflex ones from Brickwerks ... or PM Simon Baxter on here. There ya go - http://www.brickwerks.co.uk/index.php?p ... t&Itemid=6

Have you checked your brake fluid level ? ... the warning lights the same for both.

Sounds like carb icing. check the pinkish wire that runs to the underside of the carb manifold ... you are 'setting' the choke properly aren't you ? Slowly press the accelerator to the bottom and gently bring your foot up BEFORE you switch the engine on. You can switch it off again by 'blipping' the pedal.

Good luck and welcome to the Club :ok

Ian.

can help with the handbrake thing perhaps.....

there is a wire that plugs into the bottome of the handbrake....could now be loose, which is why it flickers....or...and check this...your brake fluid is low.....specially if it is flickering as you go round corners etc. Dual purpose warning light - handbrake on / fluid low. (think poss only on later vans...I have an a reg which does not have the sensor for level in the top of the brake/clutch fluid bottle). Fluid is found behind the dials on the dash.....pull the plastic cowling up and off.

hope this helps

Emma

Ian...you got there before me!

The "running on 3" could be one of the hydrolic lifters sticking abit when wat it last serviced?????

As James say's ... give it a good full service, plugs, leads, cap, arm, oil, oil air and fuel filters etc etc ... record the mileage and then you have a base to start your servicing regime from.

Contrary to some people's opinion they do NOT thrive on neglect

Many thanks for all the replies! Aren't forums great for information :)

I know absolutely nothing about these motors so if i say something stupid you know why!

To look at the steering rack do i have to look up to the rack from under the van? (Im used to lifting a bonnet up)

Im gonna loom at the wire for the handbrake as i think this will be the more likely cause, especially when the guy i bought it from said it worked until he jet washed the cab floor,if the wires ok ill check the brake fluid (i cant believe the reservoir is behind the clocks!)

From the info youve just mentioned about the choke i havent been putting it on properly, ive been giving the gas pedal a few taps before i turn the ignition to send some petrol through the carb.I didnt realise the choke only came on with a gentle press of the pedal.

Cheers :D

No bonnets here friend

Yep, limbo dance under the van and the rack's mounted to the cross beam in front of the fuel tank. The bushes are easy to do ... there's a write up of the proceedure in the Wiki at the top of the page

Thanks ill take a look under! I better take a look to see if the ones on the rack have perished or not,i take it i should be able to tell if theyve got cracks in etc?

Our's were extremely obvious, the metal inserts have normally parted company and you can move the rack by hand

The flexible joints on the steering shaft (3X I think) need checking as well ...

Many thanks for the diagram but to be honest i cant work out where the shaft youre on about is on the van? I can make out the steering column in the diagram and obviously know where that is but dont get what the shaft is for?
