Thought I would say hello and introduce Tonka.

Hello.

This weekend I bought an '89 Syncro RHD Caravelle. All seems a bit overwhelming to have a T25 again... feeling all giddy and chuffed now.

I used to have had an old T25 Transporter Van a few years ago 1.9 WC .. engine blew up unfortunately, and since then have missed the ole thing a lot. Decided not to mess about any longer and sold my 70's Toyota Cressida (plan for that was to be a V8 lowrider..never happened) to help fund the purchase of a syncro.

I had been after a VW T3 / T25 Camper but got annoyed at the general crapness of the ones I was seeing advertised, and also how expensive some of these were. Majority of the ones I saw smelt musty and seemed tired and uncared for. I thought why not go for a syncro, its a logical step (well not really). That would mean best of both worlds.... both impractical and practical at the same time.

I have been aware of Syncro's since being a teenage boy, always thought they were seriously cool and looked great fun, but never imagined actually
getting one. My interest in them got rekinded again not so long ago when I saw that Bristol City Council (mmmh yeah i thought that was a bit random too.. its true though) had one... doing council type things around Bristol in it (no doubt empty the meters of their booty) About the only cool vehicle they have apart from some trick Landies.

Anyways, I have Syncronicity (sorry for the pun) now and it exceeds my expectations on all counts.. superb! Being an 8 seater bus its very useful for carrying err....8 people I guess (if, as and when that happens)....... but I am going to fit it out in the goodness of time as a modular campervan, with easy put in / take out units that will bolt in. When not used as camper it can then be a simple uncluttered 5 seater high off the ground big red box shaped sort of vehicle.... ace!

I look forward to bantering on the forum with you all, and no doubt will meet some of you gathered 2 wheel drive, 4wd, low, hi, mid, and no top owners etc (maybe even 1wd and 6wd) at the events.

Welcome Adam, if I'm guessing right, you've got yourself a lovely vehicle. One word of advice, make sure its well secured, nice vans have a reputation for going missing - some sort of total disablement other than an alarm always a good idea. Sorry to be a wuss, but we don't like to hear that sort of sad stopry here... esp. when and if in London.

Otherwise, hope to see you at one of our Syncronaut events. We shall be doing some novice induction so you can tae it easy and not get thrown completely in at the deep end.

CJ unfortunately that weekend clashes with an event that both Plurker and I are working on. Will try and make it along to the Coney Island do tho. Would like you to have a look over the Tonk, MOT is due in a few months so be good to see how things are.

Thanks for the words of advice on security there HarryMann. There are some cunning things onboard already, and am fitting some other ....."Really takes time to work it out kinda security" mods too. That way any potential gits or pond life will get bored and hopefully give up. Oh did I mention.... I used to be in the SAS, am a Ninja and when badly crossed, tend to start behaving like Mr Nicholson in The Shining.

To be honest though... Its not really worth trying to nick the Tonk, as nice as it may seem, its riddled with rust, has problems with the gearbox, engine, electrics... the interior smells like a chicken shed, the floor is soddon wet and is covered in wierd moss..., and have discovered its a cut and shut...! Someone put a Metro back end on it...! Pah! You can't get any parts for it either as its an import!

I have enjoyed driving some Landies Td5's up at the event Plurker and I work on, but would like to take it easy in my Tonk for the 1st time, perhaps a few sits in peeps passenger seats ... get an idea how far you can take these things and what they'll stand up to. I also want to know that my one is mechanically sound and up for the job before giving it some welly.

Was wondering if anyone could recommend a good place to get a good split charger / relay thing or whatever its called, as I want to fit a leisure battery and power invertor to me motor. What's a good make of battery to go for?

How far are you from Bristol, Tonka?

There's a Syncro enclave in Filton which you're welcome to stop by at in advance of the Coney Green Farm event, if you wish.

There's also an MOT station 5mins from here that sees a fair few Syncros - I've always found them very fair.
