Not sure if its the correct place to to say hello but.......hello anyway :D

Bit of background and why i'm here really.

my main love are mini's or to be correct 16v mini's. I have built a 16v red top engined mini that has been on the road for the last year :D and is currently undergoing a transformation into a race car for sprint and hillclimbs. Now for the part about why i'm here before you all say "why is this dude ranting about mini's" on a dub camper site :D

For racing this year i want to buy a T25 camper to tow my trailer and mini to events so we can have a place to chill out in. I also want to use it for the odd weekend away.

So my questions are what should i be looking for in T25 to be able to tow approx 900kgs (mini and trailer) I.m not adverse to an engine swap if that would make things better for the towing needs. Ive done it on the mini anyway :D

budget is about 3.5k

I would say no. These vans don't have a lot of power unladen. A camper in general weighs around 2250kg. They will sit fairly steady at 60/70 on a flat motorway run. Consumption wise you are looking at between 23mpg around town and 25/27mpg on a motorway run. Mine is a 1.9 water cooled and i wouldn't fancy towing a load any distance. However if i were you I'd pop post on technical, there will be a lot more people with more knowledge of this kind of thing than me.

Perhaps a 2.1 diesel or maybe a syncro would fair better. Any way hope you get the advice you're looking for and good luck with whatever you purchase.

Regards
Jpee

2.1 Diesel? anyway...I kind of agree but I would say it depends on what you are expecting. None of the original spec T25's (SA and Ouetinger aside) were particularly powerful, the 2.1 petrol possibly the best. All are capable of pulling the weight but you would certainly need to be patient and not expect too much.
However, that said..You might be better off looking for a T4 camper with the very capable 2.5TD engine rather than flogging an older T25 to death...
