How easy is it to replace Air cooled heater cables? The ones that go to the riser boxes off the heat exchangers. At present I have the levers cable tied, as a temporary solution but would like control again as in spring I need heat to the windscreen at 4:30 am going to work, but not for the rest of the day.

Has anyone replaced theirs if so can you give me any tips please

Did it or should I say started this a while back

From what I can remember I was just going to pull the cable through to the dash control ends and thread the new ones back through but, no way

Think that the cables were somehow crimped at both ends and made to be at one with the shroud, which meant replacing the the whole set up from front to back ,which in an ideal world would be easy enough

The problem was that where they run by the fuel tank there were some sort of hidden cable ties holding them to the chassis which really caused me some grief   and in the end I think the nearside one was all I completed and did a repair job on the offside, which if you have enough cable end left and they are still sliding through the shroud maybe this would be an easier option.... :ok

P.S., if your heater cables are shorter than they should be, choc-blocs and coathanger wire is a great fix! (covkid)

All this and more bits of info if you do a `search` for "heater cables" also if you taking the front cover off where the levers go through the dash be careful cause they snap easily  you can try a flat thin knife to tease it away....

First unbolt the cables from the mountings by the heat exchangers. Cut off the crimped ring around the guide sleeve and disassemble the cable ends, make a note of how the ends came apart as there should be a sleeve which secures the inner and outer cables. Disconnect the cables from the heater controls and pull the cables through the bulkhead and under the van so they are straight out in front of the van. You should then be able to pull the heater cables out of the coloured guide sleeves towards the front of the van. If the cable wont move you will have to go under the van and see if there are any cable ties that are crimping guide sleeve to tight. Reinstall in reveres order but squirt some white grease down the guide sleeves first.
