Hi, one thing after another on my van! the Speedo has just stopped working! is this a case of the need cable, or is there anything to try and test first? Thanks in expectation.

The speedo works on a cable from the nearside front wheel, have a close look at the centre cap, there should be a square cable end protruding fixed with a circlip.
sometimes the clip comes off.
Depending on the vans age, the spedo cable is either a screw on or push fit at the speedo end.

Hi, thanks for that. Mine's a LHD - so will that be the offside wheel?

it helps to say what year your van is.as tony says early vans have a cable that screws onto the the rear of the speedo.late vans have one that pushes on.and this can somtimes come off..

On mine the square end of the cable that is driven by the wheel bearing cover rounded off, so i put a couple of washers under the split pin to pull some more square cable through the hole
Hope this helps

Talking of Speedos.... having got a SatNav for chrimbo my suspicions that my speedo were not not accurate have been proven right! I actually though my "60MPH" was probably about 55MPH in reality.... how wrong was I? When I am doing what I think is 60MPH I am actually travelling at 50MPH.... no wonder it always takes so bloody long to get anywhere in the van! :rofl Is there any way of correcting this or is it a case of just remarking the display? :idea

Mines like that, was a lot worse! One day I'll fix it so its almost right. How out is the trip counter? If thats pritty good and its 10mph extra at any speed the you just need to move the neadle round (or probubly back to where it was). They are normally set +10% anyway so its prob only 5mph out.
