Tappets... odd occurence of noise

1.9 LPG .86
Travelling to Sheffield We stopped at Derby for a burger
this was an hours drive, the tappets were quiet before we set off, But at Derby, they were quite noisey (I could hear at least two on either side) Like they had leaked down from a lay up.
We were travelling quite fast up till Derby at around 70mph along the A38 with a steep down hill just before the burger bar.
I reduced the speed to 60mph for the rest of the journey
Arriving at Sheffield they were quiet again
levels checked out OK
oil/filter change 3 months ago (20/50)

oil is three months old steve I wouldn't suspect it.
but if you think it may be the reason...

I'd check the oil firstly like steve says , If you get stuck Kev , ring me , If you change the oil and there's no change again phone me and i'll pop across ,
When did you last run on the petrol ? may just be a sticky /glazed valve ,

here till friday mark
Tried to run it on petrol but I discovered there's no supply even after the manual override has been switched.
I reckon it could be the pump.
I'll pop an oilchange in when I get a pump from GSF

Time for a dynamic oil pressure check me thinks. Could be a lazy oil relief valve, but if you check the pressure and all is well then will be a hydraulic lifter which can be changed engine in. Any buzzerof doom, or flickering oil light at tick over when hot?

thanks simon
no buzzer or lights
thought about the oil pressure and was going to renew the relief valve
how do you do an oil pressure check?
(without involving a garage!)

Kev, not which manual switch you have for the petrol, but if its the older thumbscrew type, it maybe stuck in the closed position, mine did this last year. A easy test is to remove pipes and see if you can blow through it, and at the same time you can check the pump is indeed pumping. If you suspect the pump, check the pump pushrod first, they wear , and it's only a milimeter difference between working and not.
Also check petrol filter(obviously). Or it could be like mine and not actually have any petrol!!!
either way, the fuel whats making the tappet rattle, thats either low oil pressure or most likely time for a change, 3 months or not. How level were you parked when you started up after that burger?

What Oil viscosity are you using?
If 10W/40 or thinner change to heavier 15W/40

Redwesty I'm using 20/50
OK so update
noise wouldn't stop so I checked the rocker . and found No 4 inlet, I could push the tappet as it was spongy.
reset the lash to zero and then screwed in two turns.... silence.
fixed the petrol issue too
as Mocki suggested it was the petrol cutoff solly... seized.
thanks all
