Hi Guys n Gals,

Not been on for a while hospital visits, doctors etc

Anyway we are moving to Spain and it has been decided that our beloved Nancy is coming with us, cooooool

Mrs Krisis is flying out on Jan 3rd and I shall be following on in April after the doctors have finished cutting me up, injecting me with MORE cortisone and everything else

I get to pack up the house, sell the furniture, fridges, freezers, furniture ( all quality stuff by the way and if you are interested)

Then I have the BEAUTIFUL job of driving down to Spain but have to take a fair amount of personal belongings with me, along with all of the things that make a house into a home

So the question is
HOW MUCH WEIGHT WILL AN UNDER POWERED 1600 N/A DIESEL PULL ?
without killing it all together baring in mind it has a couuple of thousand miles to do
I am looking at a 6x4 trailer, that I can then sell in Spain, possibly

max towing weight should be 1500 kg (braked)

The N/A diesel will pull it, no worries there, the question just is how fast

On the flat you should be able to reach and maintain 50 mph without too much bother and without doing damage ...hills/inclines is where it gets difficult.
At mid-range revs the n/a diesel will pull nicely and without too much stress on the engine, the only problem is that it could be mid-range second gear (or first !) on really steep inclines.

Should you happen to find yourself on a motorway in this situation, that will get quite stressful, even dangerous. So the motivation will be there to put the boot down and cook the engine. Add to that that there are ferries to catch, deadlines to meet and the journey could become very unpleasant.

I would investigate road freight if I were you. A few well packed boxes, delivered as a part load with no particularly urgent deadline won't be too expensive (cheaper than buying a trailer and possibly frying your engine)

Go the none hilly route for gods sake. A normal 1.6 d with holiday weight in is bad enough. Good luck.

I used a 1600 na to tow a trailer, an austin 7, several van parts and an outboard motor back to Finland a couple of years ago.
All went well, though I had to use first gear several times on hills and I must have annoyed the cars behind me.

To be quite frank the van wasn't that much slower, it just didn't climb hills quite as easily (LOL). I think all in the extra weight came to around 1000kg.
I used a braked trailer as well. Everything ran a little warmer than usual and I checked the water and oil regularly.

I'm sure the van will cope if you take it easy on the seanic route. You gonna take a spare engine and some ratchet straps? If all else fails...

So a 6x4 that is not over loaded is fine, 1000kg max

Might be a problem avoiding the Pyrenees ! I shall research the costal route, google earth time

As for motorways thats sit at 50mph and chill watch the water temp, oil temp and oil pressure gauges

No real stress over ferries as I shall be there parked up and snoozing on the RnR Bed, maybe a cuppa and a bite to eat possibly
I am going Dover to Dunkerque as it saves £110.00 as I will be sailing from Dover at 02.00 hrs gets to France at 06.00 hrs then pootle down through France avoiding tolls where ever possible taking it easy, sleeping when needed

The last time I drove down was in 1990 in an old 850cc Mini, GOOD FUN

This time I will not be racing and wont care if I get stopped by customs in France again, last time they gutted my mini and it took a day plus to rebuild it and pack it all back in This in turn made it tight to get to the hotel, where I was to start working 2 days later,
boy did that mini get thrashed

Incredible really, how un-officious and tolerant the Brits are on so many rules and regs isn' t it

regestering rhd's in spain is a right problem.. i looked into changing me twin slider over.. was was said to be posible as it had sliding doors both sides. but would still have been fun.

as to the trailer bit.. whatever trailer you get, if you intend to sell it out there its got to be plated/weight rated if not its not worth sod all as the regs for traliers are a pain in the a***..

where you moving to? i still intend to move back to barcelona..
i personaly would look at selling a rhd t3 here and getting a lhd one before moving, but that takes time..

there are still spanish regestered t3's to be had at not to silly money..

Hi All
We are moving to Almunecar in the granada coastal region

I am keeping the van UK registered, parents pad, until I can find a LHD.
It might be a case of a flight to germany to buy the LHD but we shall see what happens.
We are planning to do a bit of touring around Andalucia, Spain and Portugal as well.

As for the trailer I am buying a decent one, new or second hand, quality is the operative word as I shall be using it possibly my self with my market stall business that I am setting up.

It all good fun but I have to sell the contents of my garage and house as we will need the money over there.

We're among the most relaxed in Europe. Half the things we do to our vans wouldn't be allowed else-where.
I can see why they say it though, as a previous leftie owner, I believe LHD's are more dangerous. Try driving down Cornwalls country lanes or over-taking a truck at night, without a co-driver, & I think most will agree. But then I suppose they are alittle cheaper & far more plentiful.

Is anything straight -forward in Spain?!! I am sure with a few hundred Euro's to the right person the van can be re-registered - everything else seems to work from backhanders over there from what I can gather!

Just got back from Almunecar, Spain and having spoken to locals English, Spanish and the Guardia Civil they are MEGA tight on right hand drives with some hurendous fines!!!!!!!!!!

So I am selling Nancy and buying a left hand drive so to keep the guuardia happy and money in my pocket.

How much do I sell her for is the next question, have a look in the garage and give me an idea please, I going to re paint her after I've do the bits of body work so she'll be really pretty as well as solid.

The house feels HORRIBLE as my darling wife is working in Spain and I cannot get out there until I sort everything out here in the UK

The biggest problem are my health ones, which are all related to the assault I suffered in 2005, and the Basta*d has got away with it what a wonderful and just legal system we have

Anyway looking for a left hand drive and selling a right hand drive, possible swap in anyone is interested
