Found some fluid in the drivers side footwell and looks like the clutch master cyliner is leaking, took it for a spin and the bite is right at the top of the clutch pedal movement and the brakes are nice and sharp. I have ordered a new cylinder and was hoping to just top up the resevoir and wrap a rag around around the the cylinder for now, is this ok and safe to do as I need the van through the week (got to get the wife a Christmas prezzy yet) or anyother temp fix suggestion

Well I got an idea it does the brakes as well but if I had anything to do with the design I would see to it that the clutch failed well before the brakes so you couldn't kill yourself trying to do what you are planning to do. Someone can confirm that. But it may deteriorate further and foil your plan even yet! One thing I would do however is leave the nacelle cover off and keep a bottle of fluid ready so you or your passenger can keep in eye on the level and maybe top it up before it gets too much air in it. Jolly bad luck though just before Xmas.

Clutch take off is half way up on reservoir so clutch will fail before brakes so what ever happens to clutch you will be able to stop. Your suggestion wil not really help apart from stopping the fluid going onto the floor. How bad is leaking? Only real help I can give is to change it asap as you may find yourself stranded away from home with no clutch. Good luck.

Its not leaking too bad just a drip, reservoir is just below max level , I just want to keep the slippy stuff of the floor and use the van until the new part arrives, only using it to go into town this week ,so as long as it won't effect the brakes Im hoping all will be well.

It may drip for quite a while, then it suddenly fails leaving you with no clutch which is NOT to be advised. At least you're doing the right thing in ordering a new part
