Have a T3 Caravelle and traveling in Portugal, we have a strange increasing creaking noise from the left hand side, had the suspention bushes replaced before leaving England, think it sounds (and feels) like its coming from there, do I need to worry? do I need to panic? has anyone had any similar sounds and problems?

any advise welcome
thanks

Moo,,,,Suspension noises can be attributed to many things but a good look underneath in the daylight is always a good idea, if you find something un toward then get a second opinion.

For now simple checks such as wheel nuts security would be my first point to eliminate.

Could easily be the top wishbone bushes, mine have been replaced after squeaking away for two years, were quiet for a couple of months and have now started to squeak again. If the noise is with the suspension movement then that may well be what it is. The squeaking in no way makes the top bush dangerous or unsafe, but is just a bloody irratant. If the squeaking is different with varying loads, then tis the top bush. Worry not, they just dont make em like VW did.

I´ve had a look and can´t see anything adrift, the noise is from the front/Left and it´s when I go over bumps, the sound is like something has seized and is moving slightly, I have tried to feel around for the vibration, but my partner isn´t really strong enough to shake the van lol I have had new wishbone bushes put in about 6 weeks ago! So your probably right about it being the bushes.

Thanks for the replies and the reasurance, we´ll keep trucking on :P

You could try getting a can of silicon spray and giving each component a squirt, one at a time, take it for a quick spin after each bush is sprayed, see what makes the squeak stop.

:idea Well I think DearJohn might have a point there, maybe it's dried out in all this heat, I'm just in the bar now moistening my lips, I'll have to do the same for the van in the morning  I have a trusty can of WD with me, wouldn't travel without it really.

thanks

Its possible your shock absorber is all dried up not much you can do as a permemant cure if it is but try some wd40 on the exposed part them bounce it up and down a bit. It happened to of once after some driving in heat and dust. It won't cure it but it won't be quite as noisy for a while. long term cure is to replace. Enjoy trip.
