Hi I have an issue with my starter motor and have sourced a second hand one from a user on this forum.

This starter was for a 1982 2ltr Aircooled van but has slightly diffent numbers on it and i was wondering if anyone could telll me the diffence if any or tell me whether the secondhand one i have sourced would fit my van.

The only number i can really distinguish on my starter is the long one at the bottom which reads:

091 911 023A

and on the replacement starter:

091 911 023B

If i need the other numbers I will have to have an other look at the starter that i have taken off

Thanks for all your help in advance

My guess is that the B denotes an update or modification, A being the original design.
That's how we deal with part numbers and modifications at my work.

023B is listed for automatic transmission, 023A for manual transmission. It may be the same dimensionly just a higher power output.
