None of this really makes sense...engine oil only gets really hot when the engine is under sustained load as in, hard motorway run or hilly terrain, simply idling or free reving for an MOT gass analysis wouldn't get the oil particularly hot (the engine coolant but not the oil itself)
Besides..how hot are we talking? have you any actual readings? MOT test requires the oil to be at least to 80C but that isn't really hot, this just gaurantees the engine generally is up to temperature which is a requirement of efficient and accurate gas analysis.
Can you give more details please.

Oil temp on this age of vehicle would not be tested at mot time any way. Why would they advise on high oil temp. How would they know. The stalling I would suggest is nothing to do this as would give terminal probs that once here would not go away after 5 mins cooling down.

I agree. My 2.1DJ developedjust such a fault (forgetting about hot oil) and afer several weeks of failed diagnostics, a couple of hundred squids worth of replacement parts and five recoveries It turned out to be the ECU. A substitute ECU was fitted as a last resort after trying everything else! I am not suggesting this is your problem but as the man says hot oil should be acompanied by warning lights, bad smells. boiling over or even a knocking or destroyed engine. The two are unlikely to be linked by anything other than both being connected with temperature. I am not suggesting for a moment that your problem is the ECU but simply that it ain't necesarilly due to "hot oil"

I would be very concerned if it wasn't

how long is that?

barnsters1 wrote:when it gets too warm it cuts out

Do you mean the temperature guage goes into the red and it stops?

I would suggest a cooling fault
fueling fault
or wrong oil grade
