starting problem

I've had my van ( 89 watercooled 2.1 ) under a cover ( outside on drive ) for 6 weeks or so. Every couple of weeks I've started it up ( always first turn of the engine ) and left it for ten minutes or so. Before now never had a problem but today it started as usual but needed a bit of accelerator pushing to keep it going. Left it for the usual 10 minutes and then it stopped ! I tried restarting and although intially got going it just died on me and now won't start. It turns over and tries but no go. Pretty annoying as this has never happened before. It was properly serviced in October.I'm not technically knowledgeable but could the choke be sticking and caused flooding ?

bloody hell mate must be catching, my 82 2.0l Aircooled did the identical thing this morming. struggled to start, i used a booster starter battery to get it going, it then ran lumpy as hell for 10mins maybe a bit less, then it really started to struggle even reving it did not help, then it died and would not restart. Batterys is dead now, so i will have to charge it overnight.

Its an epidemic....

my camper started to run lumpy on the way home...then died in traffic...foot flat to the floor no engine noise in first....crawled to side of road. Restarted couple minutes later.....went ok home as long as I kept the revs up!!!

I have a horrible suspision that this could also be my issue, the Van was low on fuel and park on a slight decline...... and the fuel line runs out of the rear of the tank.................

I have got a new filter and will bung a gallon in tomorrow and give it a go...
