Collected my custom made input shaft today.
I can now use the PD friction plate!

Cool. At the last the PD will be fully unleashed !

I am confident if doug uses the torque its going to eat it. If the power band was a little higher it might stand a chance but the pd has so much low speed torque something will give if you don't believe me ask anyone familiar with t5's, all pd's and all kill gearboxes which were made for the engine.

But Doug doesn't wear size 14s Andy

From scratch, just gave him a T3 shaft and a PD friction plate.

Should I say I guess its a bit from a clutch but what's so special, & why does it need to be special?

"It" is the shaft that transfers power from you engine to your gearbox via the clutch.
The friction plate is what create's the 'grip' in the clutch and is what creates the actual connection between your engine and box.

It needs to be so special because Doug has put in a TDi engine from a Mk4 (i think) Golf.
It being a TDi Pumpe Duese engine it has enourmous amounts of torque (more than double that of an AAZ) available and needs the relevant friction plate for the clutch not to slip.

Went out in it with Andy and his size 14s at Syncropendence.. even then with its built-in safety valve, still put a grin on Andy's face that I hadn't seen for quite a while

Next big modification I hear is a radio-controlled throttle-stop... so he can still let people have a go - without a £1000 deposit!

The spline/shaft diameter is unfortunately different from the T3 and the 1Z and as far as I could ascertain there is no suitable after market shaft available.
Fortunately there is a precision engineer close to me who is into motor sport and look upon my plight sympathetically as long as I paid cash!

Hmmmmmm clearer, but is it a good idea............

If the standard clutch can't handle it, can the standard gearbox? Or has this been up-rated aswell?

Well, that remains to be seen.
I also like colouring outside the lines.

Looks a terrific job from that picture, not many around who'd take that on from scratch, I should think
