When i towed a friend out of the mud at Oktoberfest there was an awful smell of burning it also done the same when i put it on ramps.

Is the standard VW one ok (228mm) or would it be best to go for a Subaru one (225mm)?

Do i need a clutch kit or just a disc?

I just want it to be right first time and all be sorted.

well does the conversion use the subaru or vw clutch?? I thought RJES conversion used the Scooby one...


clutch slip would indicate the pressure plate isnt up to it, so a quality one is required...
I dont think there are many heavy duty ones in 228mm either though so that might not be an option..
Will the 228mm vw one go in the Scooby flywheel?

A quality scooby one (kit if the one you used was a "used" one) is prob needed, have a word with Richard...

You can only fit the vw friction plate unless you buy richards re engineered input shaft. A standard vw plate should be good for at least 50000 miles driven sensibly. On my old 2.2 setup I did encounter slipping which turned out to be no free play in slave rod to arm. check you have this as I am told by richard it is possible to have a wrong arm/rod combination. I needed van the next day, so spaced slave cylinder with 2 m8 washers under each side, and this cured the problem.
Hope this helps. I would fit a complete new clutch kit and richards input shaft with any 2.2 if you want to be 100 % sure.

I was hoping no one would say that, £££. I originally got the clutch with the kit i got from Richard. I would be looking at £250+ to fit a Scooby clutch. I think!

Have you called Richard about this seeing as its one of his products? Fit a Kenedy drag race clutch like mine and you will have no probs.
