Standard tyre size?

On the van when i had it the tyre sizes were 185/70x14" and i am fitting 16" alloys so i want to replace with correct profile, i have used the calculator on Brickyard and the wiki but there seems to be some conflict as to what the original size is.On the brickyard one it defaults back to 185/82x14" whereas the wiki one offers no standard size, however my handbook quotes 185 R 14C with no mention of profile.I presume this is where the '82' profile comes from
So.........Can anyone please tell me the standard tyre size for a 1986 carravelle?

80 is standard profile for all tyre sizes so if it does have the profile number it is an 80. 185/80/14 was most popular for t25's

So my 185/70's were too small in circumference then? compared to a standard "factory fitted" tyre of 80 profile

where it say's 185Rx14C if the R is radial what is that C denoting?

The C stands for "commercial", ie the load rating is higher than a std car or "reinforced" type.. you should see also a 102/100 marking on too
for the 16's you need to find tryres with a high load rating, ideally 97 or above, but you will struggle.. some of the people carrier tyres are rated high enough.. you may have to settle for a lower rating, and be carefull about a full camper and loading..

load rating 97 that equals to 730kg per wheel x by 4 = 2920 kg thats a tad over the top do you think?

94's are quite common (mondeo's) offering 670kg

Your tyres were too small before, the tyre calculator's default setting is the standard size. Tyre manufacturers just round it down to '80' so you need either 205/60 x16's or 225/55 x16's to be spot on or the speedo will read higher than you are actually going or more importantly the van will be 'kevtherevving' it's b0llox off.............see you soon :trunk
