ok guys, can someone explain the pro`s and con`s to having spot lights high up at roof level over mounting them at grill level. i`ve heard you can get glare of them high up but i`ve never had roof mounted lights myself. most serious offroaders seem to have them high up and i wondered why.

cheers lee.

Why? 'cos they look cool!

glare would be a problem If you had a bonnet sticking out (I know they do on our white work landy) and you can get eye brow type things to go underneath so prevent this, however that wouldnt be much of a problem on a Syncro.

probably also help you see big holes in the road that wouldnt show up well with normal low down lights, and over bushes on tracks etc.

There's always low branches waiting to take them off!

Pro,
very cool, offroader style look.
Better illumination and stay cleaner.

Con,
Drilling holes in the roof and the routing of the wires. even if you put the spots on a gutter mounted bar, where do you hide the cable?

i personally think the best place to mount spot lights is at eye level, that minimises any shaddows which you get when the spots are at a different height than your looking. I've looked at mounting spots off the rain gutters before but always stopped beacuse i'd have to drill the metal work to hide the cable. Looking to buy a single cab and will defo mount roof spots and marker lights (going to look like a christmas tree when im finished) as i have no worries about drill a cheapy single cab. just not my shiny camper.

since your not doing any serious off roading they will be fine on the front wheres theres already holes for the brackets, from experiance anything permanantly on the roof was a pain in the ass, using more fuel=higher ferry prices=noisy at speed and ultimately your gonna tear em off on summat one day,cj.
