Leaking Westfalia Roof

I put another post about this, but have, I think discounted the idea of condensation as there is simply too much wetness!

My poptop 1982 Westfalia has a very damp ceilling - there is no vinyl just chipboard or whatever it is and it is getting increasingly wet. Now this has happened since I opened and shut the sky light... but I don't think it is leaking there, I think it is general seepage through the top itself.... my questions are thus:

1. Does general seepage actually occur? I.e. is it only waterproofed by paint or something?

2. Can I waterproof the top myself by painting it, if so WHAT paint should I use?

Thanks for your help! Matt

Hi i've got exactly the same problem on our westy poptop, it will be down to the seal on the skylight being broken, I haven't yet tried to sort ours out, but i imagine a new skylight seal will be required.

ours seems to seep in round the skylight and spread accross the roof lining, giving a big damp spot on the ceiling, is this like yours?

Basically

Possibly yes - it did seem to spread from the centre! I suppose that is good news really - easier than trying to sort the whole roof out in some way!

Where can you get a new seal from though? Do they still make them? Could I, with basic DIY skills, be able to fix it myself?

Thanks!

Brilliant, thanks for the link - but it didn't work... well not at the moment anyway, and can't seem to find the part on the site?

Do you know what the German word is for it?

I can search the site then!

Thanks!

Found it finally...

Dear God that is expensive! Does anybody know where I can get just the seal from? Or could I use something else?

almost 200 quid otherwise!

Mine leaked from around the skylight, the seal was OK but the actual corners of the fibreglass were cracked, happy hunting!
