Can i put a 1800 petrol 8v engine in my van? with relative ease????

My golf gl, gearbox died and mot has run out, the engine is good, so before it goes in the bin, is it worth keeping the engine?

Will fit but as far as I am aware you will need diesel mounting bar. Will fit in the same as diesel them as they all use the same mounting points. Then make an exhaust sort out the wiring as mk3 golf 8v is single point injection. Then all you need to sort is bolting upto gearbox. Good luck.

Get the fuel pump right, and it will be OK, get it wrong and you will slowly go mad...

There is a thread a short while back on this, it's a matter of how low the pump is below the tank or whether there is a lift pump to feed the main pump... (perhaps this is just a problem with Syncros with low fuel tank outlets).

The problem.. the pumps overheat in summer and cutout.

Cheers

So it does go but with a bit of swearing?

Mines a watercooled petrolwbx, so I need a few diesel bits as per the gti swap?

Does it bolt straight to the gearbox

And is there any "modifications" needed to the crossmembers?

The crossmembers? NO, if you mean the engine support bar, it isn't used

The complete VW T25 diesel 52 degree mount kit uses a different system altogether, support bars (tubular) that run fore and aft

You may with some inlet manifolds have mild or severe interference problems on n/s flitch panel - you should read up on this

Diesel kit means you change the gbox bellhousing and possibly input shaft (1st motion shaft), easy enough

A complete diesel fitting kit is gettinmg rarer, or more of a commodity, so check out what this will costs before committing...

It sounds like you haven't read the Alt Engines threads on... Er! Alt Engines?

You should have engines codes ABS or ADZ will fit without adjustments for inlet manifold. These engines are supper strong and last forever but lacking badly in power, the power is low becuase of the injection system used, injection system is going to take alot of messing about and its simply not worth it.

I have had a read, sure it said crossmembers needed modifying thats the reason i ask,

well the engine is there, so I may rip it out and leave it in a corner until this one breaks...

Will a diesel bell housing fir my petrol gearbox?

I was told on a very recent thread on here that you need the sump, oil pump and oil pick up off the diesel version of the engine as well as the mounting bits and the bell-housing and input shaft.

I have cancelled the idea as too much money and messing about.

I am back to quietly looking for a decent WBX motor, whilst my poor camper sits on the drive, SORN'd, cold and wet
