Hi,
I have a problem with the roof on my 1980 Devon, the rivets that hold the roof on have snapped at the front which made the roof collapse, I had to strap the roof down with surfboard straps and take a very slow drive back from Cornwall, what I would like to know is -
Is this a common problem?
And how easy is it to fix?
Thanks in advance.

Hi Rhoop...do you mean the catch that holds the roof down, or the rivets that hold the catch that holds the roof down. New catches aren't oo much of a problem.....but repairing the bosywork if the rusty and rivets have pulled out may be.
A picture would tell a thousand words!

Sorry should have given more information, it is the rivets on the hinges that connect the roof to the body there does not appear to be any rust on the body at this point just no rivets, I will get a picture tomorrow if it isn't raining.

I had this happen to my 81 devon roof when I owned it. Difficult to get at without removing the roof altogether. Mine was caused by the rivets pulling through the rusted roof. Repaired it by taking out the pop rivets that hold the plastic cover hiding the hinges on the inside with roof raised, and managed to get some bolts through and then by removing the inside upper trim panels and cutting a hole in double wall behind the hinge allowing the nuts and repair washers to be fixed on and tightened. Very time consuming job but worked and lasted well. Good luck which ever way you tackle it!
