Swapping tailgates

Morning, need to replace my tailgate and want to check that a 82 one will be fine on an 87 van...cant see anything different, just would rather not find out after pulling them both off!!
You shouldn't have a problem. I've got a later tailgate on my early van.
The lock buttons on the outside may be different, but they all lock onto the same pin.
