Get the bloody universal joints out of the prop shaft? I have tried to get them out with the vice and 2 sockets (one small and one large) and have only managed to break my vice.

You don't, you leave it to a prop-shop

If you can't see any circlips, they're staked in.

You can use a press to push one of them out I believe, then having removed the spider, drift the other cup out.

But have you got the correct replacements?

They do go quiet between resonances, but towards 80 you'll feel the 2nd harmonic coming back, more as a buzzing - unless it's really bad at 40 - then I'd stay well away from 80

Mine suffered from steering vibration at around 60mph after the last gearbox refitting. It seems to have settled down to normal after a few hundred miles though. Guess that must the the transmition realigning itself? I thought at first maybe the prop might have needed realigning on the gearbox but its pritty smooth now having done nothing but drive it. Is that common? Didn't notice such simptoms last few times the 'box was fitted.
