No reversing lights - & no switch!

1992 LLE 2.1 petrol, 5-speed manual.

I noticed that I was getting no reversing lights when in reverse gear. I thought I'd quickly check the Haynes manual, find the switch and whip it out and clean/change it as necessary. However, on jacking up the rear of the bus and inspecting the gearbox (manual 5-spd), I find no switch! Not a broken one, or a missing one, but nothing at all - not even a drilling for a switch!

The lights have reversing bulbs and lenses in, and I can't believe a 1992 T25 was made without a reversing light facility, so where is the switch??? :?:

I would have thought so too, but the left-hand side (nearside on my LHD van) of the gearbox has no fittings, protuberances or broken bits whatsoever. I shall post a piccy when my camera's recharged!

I have no reverse lights. Found a cable had come off of the side of the gearbox connector underneath the van and is just dnagling free under there. Haven't reconnected - not sure which of the 2 cables goes onto which connector (or why its off - earthing fault?) Maybe you will find the same?

Sarah, it matters not which way reound yo connect them, but if you re connect them, remember to check tha your reversing lights are not on alll the time, which is the main reason for wires disconnected, - faulty switch!!

i can take the pictures CovKid, but i cant post them, as the server wont allow hosting on our own webspace to be displayed- wonderfull isnt it!

Ok - this is my gearbox. Note the lack of a reversing light switch!

It may be relevant that it's an LLE - not made in the same factory as the older T25s. The engine is a 2.1 fuel-injected petrol, coded 'SS' rather than 'DJ'. The gearbox is a 5-speed manual.

I'll have a closer look, Steve - thanks. I was expecting to find it on the blank gearbox side just aft of the forward bearing, as shown in Haynes. Doh!
