Adapting sliding door to get past new Porsche wheels

We have a T25 Dehler left hand drive which we only got in August.

My other half has bought some Porsche wheels as he wants to get better brakes fitted (like I would believe that). Trouble is it seems the sliding door will hit the back wheels as they are wider than usual wheels.

We've read that you can get a large u shaped bracket fitted which would be ok but the Dehler has a bit of extra moulding trim type thing around the top half so I don't know if anyone can get to the bracket to change it.

Anyone got any ideas? Or know someone local to Enfield that would have a look ?

which porsche wheels does he have?

not all will require the hinge mod.

post up the et (found by the valve) and the width of the rim and tyre size.

ET should fall between 30 and 39..

if it is more than that then spacers need to be fitted

any less and the suspension comes under excessive strain.
As Jason says it's all down to the porsche rims.
Bigger brakes??? these brakes were designed to stop 2.5 tonnes, unless you have a scooby engine ...I suggest a brake overhaul!

Merc rims fit with no problems..they are abundant and varied :wink:

You need an extended door hinge.

This allows the door to open further at the rear edge, giving sufficient clearance.

Or you can do it yourself:

Either way, you will need to modify the slider rail yourself.

Which wheels you have and which width PCD adapters you fit will determine how much you need to carry out the mod, but from experience 18" rims tend to catch and the mod is well worth it.

et will be about 55 prob.



i have em on mine no worries and no hinge mod . its all dependant on the wheel et and width ( j ) hence my question.

And the wheel style, some have spokes that stick out more than others. :)

Thanks for advice, I've read him your posts and he says the following.

Wheel width is 8.5" with an et of 50. He knows he needs a 20mm spacer and it will scrape and need a mod - the trouble is with the moulding on the top half.

Any VW mechanics local ish to Enfield that anyone can recommend ?

there are many porker ones that bolt straight up with no issues. mine are d90 s and go straight on now worries as do many boxter ones etc

IF they are the same style ones I had from a 993 a few years ago then you will def need the hinge extended. The ET sounds similar and the problem too! They were 'proud' of the rim face too so even after sorting the ET the door hinge needed a huge amount welding in plus they fouled the arches..!
Solution???... erm I didn't think they were worth it in the end n sold em n bought Boxster ones that fitted straight on with 25mm spacers!!! :lol:
