Fixing awning to van

Hi All,

looking to buy an awning but considering best fitting attachment.

got the option of pole & clamps, which would fit as our hi-top leaves us with a gutter , or fig 8 which clips over the gutter.

Anyone got any tales to tell on these or is it down to personal preference?

There is a £15.00 difference for sewing on the piped edging and supplying the fig 8 awning rail.

Tried the figure of 8, not bad, needed to be taut or it would work its way off the gutter if theres a stiff breeze, and where the two bits os rubber met in the middle it would leak when it rained.

Didn't have any better luck with the pole and clamps.

What i do now is put the pole through, loop guy lines round the pole and take the lines over the roof and down the other side, don't look pretty but it doesnt allow much water down the roof, the gutter is free to do its job and it doesn't blow off in the wind.......with an anchorage like a T25 the tent doesn't move anywhere!

Thanks Cate. Were you a Dub Freeze?. We were the 'newbys' in the yellow A/C high top. Not sure but I think you gave us a push!

You can get a length of 'awning rail' which is in effect half a figure of eight which you can screw/pop rivet to the side of your high top if you don't fancy the other type. I use this method for my roll out canopy.

pole and clamps is the way to go,fix the awining on to gutter with pole and clamps then pull the awning tight and you end up with a good watertight seal that doesn`t droop in the middle :)

I use clamps cos I have sausage fingers and cant get the figure of eight on .....but everyone else seems to manage with thme fine....need two pieces tho as one isnt long enough

i bought the figure of eight thing, but alls it did was pull off the rubber on the gutter. I found it just kept coming undone. Much prefer the clamps, loads easier to do :-)

Used the figure 8's when I first got the awning cuz I thought they were easier, but after a windy night when one or the other would keep blowing off, switched to the pole and clamps, much better.

I prove my point re my fingers.....I cant even type the word "them" correctly.....I wish matron would slacken my jacket so I can use the keyboard in a more productive manner
