Dear Gang,
I have a 1989 Panel Van with a 1.9 DG Engine fitted.
I have an oil leak which on first inspection looks to be coming from either the flywheel end oil seal or the oil pump. In the bible ( Haynes Manual ) it reckons it is possible to do with the lump in place although some specialist tools are required, has anyone replaced these seals before was it possible with the engine still in? any tips or advice apart from taking it to a garage to do!
Thanks
Ian

Surely oil pump and flywheel are at opposite ends of the engine????
I had oil peeing out of the pulley end oil seal, which was caused by a blocked crankcase ventilation hose.

I may have used the wrong term although its called that in the haynes manual the shaft to which the crankshaft pully is attached to. almost next door to the oil pump its also called the front (flywheel end ) seal if that helps

Sorry. I'm being stupid here.

Flywheel is at the front of the engine. Oil pump is at the back.
you should be able to see if the oil is leaking from the front (crankshaft oil seal) or the back (oil pump or rear crankshaft seal)

If it is leaking from the rear crankcase seal, the oil will be flung around the engine bay, as above post. if your crankcase breather is blocked (or you have a lot of crankcase pressure the rear seal will leak even if it is in good condition.
