anybody haveing a ,subaru ,or tdi ,rover v8, pug 1.9 ,fitted in t3
got rough idea what people charge?
if you surply parts?not in a rush to have job done so they can take their time,(hopefully keeping cost down a bit!

Priceing engines
is a porsche 924s motor a good choice?as you can pick up a compleat car cheapish and sell the bits you don,t use?

Deanos VWs ae doing a highly recomended Subaru conversion at the moment.Call Dean on 07890546824. The man is quality.
Got a 2.2 Subaru in mine,got back from Cornwall today after a week of steep wet hills. Never missed a beat, flew up them.

mTDI is expensive. Best to start with a diesel engine T3 first. Reason it is expensive is because you need
1. Your gearbox modified for the Lower rpm/much improved torque curve. 2. The mechanical fuel pump is expensive
3. The injectors are chunkier and expensive
4. You need and inter-cooler and preferably a new/recon turbo

Realistically your talking not much change out of £5k

That said mine is fantastic now. Love it and haven't had too many problems since it went in.

It is very much cheaper to buy a pug lump than a VW one

I got mine for the astounding amount of 75 quid for the lump

There are conversion kits available from about 300 pounds or so on a different forum
I have not had a good look through this one yet to see if the advert is posted anywhere

And with an engine hoist and a bit of blood and sweat tears and swearing it can be changed in a day (if you have a bit of help)

That is too open a question as each different type of engine requires different levels of work to install. You could go for a straight engine out engine conversion or a full blown cutting chunks of bodywork up, modifying complex wiring harnesses etc.

I am currently doing a Cosworth V6 and the time it is taking is a lot !, each part has to be worked, machined and fabricated etc. The harness alone took 3 days to complete. I should imagine in total it will be around 200hours to do from start to finish and if you put a figure or circa £20 per hour to thay it is over 4k in labour alone excluding parts. I should imagine if I was to put a figure on my conversion you would not have much change from 7.5k. (And that excludes the gearbox I need and probable brake upgrades etc)

When you start delivering large amounts of BHP to a VW gearbox then you need to talk to Aiden and get a box sorted out etc.

Overall the figure grows rapidly the more BHP you add and the more unusual engine you install.

Think carefully about which way you really want to go and how much your budget is!

just supplied and fitted a peugeot 1.9td engine to a mates van who had a montego engine before
have charged him 950£ and did it all myself, and supplied a 2nd hand gearbox!

realsitically tho should be about 1500 and remember theres money in your old lump

you just need to decide which way you want to go ,diesel,petrol ,fast, slow ect

i run a 2.1 td peugeot in both my vans , my high top camper fully loaded towing a (small)caravan with 2 adults ,2 children averaged 32 mpg at an average of 60mph when we went to europe last year(4500 miles) and coped with all the hills ok


also something to remember when changing your engine is the gear box.
eg , if you put a subaru in to replace your 1.6 diesel then you would be wasting your time!
nearly any conversion will require at minimum a 2.1 petrol box to get the most out of the engine. even then you may need to get it rebuilt possibly with taller gears to get the most out of the engine!
remember to consider this when chosing your engine!

I am just in the process of fitting a 1.9 golf tdi motor into my T3. To over come the gear box cost I have opted to use the renault un1 box as fitted to the renault alpine. The box was a bargain at £150. The complete tdi golf cost £400. I am starting with a petrol panel van so there is the extra cost of the diesel T3 parts, sump/bell housing/input shaft/engine support bars/fabricated engine mounts/bell housing adaptor plate/gear linkage mods/etc etc.
A rebuilt VW transporter box won't give you much change out of £1500 and could cost even more. This gives me the budget for my gear box instal that I hope will be better suited to the torque of the 1.9 tdi.
Total cost of the install is unknown at present, but I will gladly to another instal once mine is finished and I have some performance figures for it. (Top speed/mpg/cost of install)
