If it`s connected to the batt correctly it`ll only go one way

thats true. But my main reason for asking is to check the new starter that i have got ordered when it gets here. The last one i put in broke (and it was brand new) and i reckon it was the wrong one (thats a story in itself!). Some go clockwise and some go anti clockwise apparently so i figure if 10 people on here who have experience in these things say "it should go clockwise direction" and then when i get my new one it indicates that it goes anticlockwise then ill know there is something up! I think im getting my new one tomorrow and wanted to find out the correct way 1st. Mainly so that i dont just assume that it is correct, fit it and then it goes crunch! Sometimes these books are not correct or people dont bother to check these things.
Its indicated on the bendix by what side of the teeth (on bendix) the little bevelled edge is cut on. The purpose of the bevelled edge is to allow good smooth contact with the flywheel as the bendix meets it on start up.

BTW, he showed me the pic in his catalogue and it showed that the correct way is anticlockwise for this particular starter motor/engine. I know its a bit of a specific question but in my case it would help a lot cos if its turns out to be wrong then its a big hassel and another week of fannying about trying to get the correct one.
Im still smiling tho... look -->
