I am taking my T25 off the road for a time to do some alterations and bought a (sorry)........nissan micra ! Anyway I have got it now and it needs a new driveshaft. A "person who knows everything" told me that when you remove the driveshaft the pinion and planet gears drop to the bottom of the gearbox and a gearbox rebuild will be needed. I have fitted many driveshafts to different vehicles in the past but now feel reluctant to take this on. Surely this cannot be correct. Can anyone offer some advice please, would be very gratefull thanks

Certainly never come across this before .... you don't undo bolts on the housing itself BUT the driveshaft bolts normally pass through the outer boot cover and the CV itself and into a captive nut in the inner flange.

Beware the "Person Who knows everything" In fact you will often find that the person who speaks with most conviction actually knows least. Look at the two undiscussable subjects for instance.

Hello,the inner CV joint should 'pop out' of the gearbox with no problems.Just use a large flat screwdriver or similar to lever it.Remember to have a bowl underneath as you will probably lose some gear oil out of the diff.When you put it back together make sure it is seated all the way into the diff housing.

Hi Pete, I work at a nissan dealers and you shouldn't have any problems. Just do as Slim says. The diff won't fall to bits, that's only on the crappy ford escorts and the like lol! If you need any advise give me a shout.
