Pritty sure the brown plug is for the aux pump switch. I bought the switch from a VW car dealer about 3 months back as mine was missing (someone fitted 3 senders), cost about a tenner. Switch is also used on some Passats from late 90's.

Before replaceing the switches/senders make sure they are plugged into the right things as its easy to get wrong. Black (dash guage) and red (glow plug control) go on temp senders; brown is for aux pump, goes on switch. You can't ID a sender/switch without removing it, unless you experiment swaping the black plug around as see how it behaves on each one.

ok thank you. The prob with it was that the wires had become a bit broken so i just wanted to replace the whole thing. I have the buzzer on the dash issue still going off along with the oil light so was just checking to see if that (unknown) sensor had anything to do with it (as the wires were near to breaking). But it seems it hasnt. Still need to replace it now though as ive broken the connectors.

The conectors themselfs are called "Junior-timer" conectors. You can buy them from places like Vehicle Wireing Products and then crimp new terminals on, problem is I don't think you can get them in colours (which I recon is a handy feature!). Personly cut them out of scrap cars with a bit of wire still atached, most VW's will have afew under the bonnet, anything with 2 pins will fit (they were clever enough to colour them but not clever enough to make them only fit the right sender! You can get lots of other colours like yellow and blue that wern't used on diesel T3's) get as much wire as you can with them and splice them onto what you've got unbroken. Getting the terminals out of the houseing can be a bit tricky if you go that route - I had to change the conector houseing on mine as the red one was smashed so didn't lock but the wireing was good so I managed to carefully remove the terminals out the houseing and refit them in a 2nd hand houseing, hence what should be the red one is now yellow on my van!

The oil presure switches are the single blade on the front side of the head next to coolent hose (probubly the lower presure switch - earths to trigger warning lamp at idle) and the single blade on the oil filter houseing (probuly the high presure switch, NOT EARTHED when the ENGINE REVING should trigger the light/buzzer if I remember right.) Worth checking dash earths/conector aswell as that can also upset DOP I think.

Thanks. Yeah i just replaced both pressure sensors as they were only £2.50 each... an now taking off sump to inspect and clean oil pickup. Let you know if it all works and the buzzer stops after ive finished it.
