Hi - we too heard that you do and you don't.

We did. It was tight getting it through with the tank lowered; in all honesty we didn't try with it up.

It wasn't actually that difficult, BUT the metal ring behind the filler neck was rotted through....but we had spares from a scrapper......Maybe worthe checking condition of filler pipe etc etc before you drop the tank.

For the record, we were replacing the metal pipes with the plastic pipes, on an A Reg converted panel van, mixture of early and late cooling system..... Its a right hash in there now, but will be prettiified once all drained down, and the correct reducers purchased! It may even stop leaking..... :D

Good luck

Hi thx for that, I know i need a "SOCK" for the filler neck, not sure if the filler neck is rotten or not. I'm dreading this as its so important , and having one engine blow already its such a worry.

Is your filler neck plastic.

If it is you can just pull it out of the tank and bend it out of the way to allow you to drop the tank without touching yer ring

You have to take the tank out.
People who say you don't are rough.
Under the tank is a hose clip that goes around both pipes and clamps it to the body.
If you don't take the tank off you won't be able to get to it, or fasten it back up afterwards and you won't be able to secure the rubber heater hoses properly either.
