Just fitted my new 15" rims with 215-75-15 BFG's - they look great. However, two things I noticed, firstly the rim would not sit on rear tidy without removing the braje drum locating screws - (is that normal)???
Also the nuts supplied seem a little too proud - and the studs just seem as though they shoukld protrude into the nut a little more - I guess what I'm wondering is it possible I have been supplied with nuts from a 16" rim - would that make any difference ??
Obviously they are on correctly to the correct torque setting - the guys that fitted them were a little concerned also. hence the question.

You realy need about 12mm minimum of thread to put the nuts on to! which is required by BMSA @ 1.50 Thread pitch,

Yes it's normal (and necessary) to remove the brake drum retaining screws if the wheels do not have indents or cutouts specifically for them..

16" nuts, would be the same I imagine

Andy Syncro-Nutz has answered your other question. Sounds like they are fine, it's alloys with their thicker hub metal that usually reduces the amount the nuts run up too much requiring longer studs, not steels.

Just always nip up the nuts in stages and check the wheels are flush before finally torqueing up Keep the back of the wheel and drum face clean and keep the studs rust and grunge free.

Ok thanks for that have just read the Wiki should of done that first , i will check the amount of thread i have there but at a guess i would say there is about 10 mm at least so as you say should be ok - Cheer's.

Don't know if any body else has had this problem , but my new rims did not have alot of paint on them - i noticed while they were in the garage the kids scratched one , right down to the black under coat or is that a powder coat ??? you could even see through the silver top coat in places - ( possibly a Friday afternoon job ) any way i decided to bite the bullet and sprayed them up with half a dozen coats of silver wheel paint , baked em off and lacquerd them - I think it was worth doing , i had plenty of time as i had to save up for the tyres - cost me £410 fitted for 5 not a bad price ???

I fitted Vw 16" Rims powder coated in Anthracite grey! A less expensive approch.

For sure - mine look the same now a sort of gun metal grey nice !!!

The nice thing about the Mefros is they have the correct offset, so don't need longer studs and spacers like some alternative steel rims do.

The Mefros use a 12mm ball radius nut versus the 14mm ball radius on the VW, that's why I included nuts with the ones I had shipped over.

Sandman, the wheels you and I got from Lars at VF included 14mm radius nuts exactly the same as VW ones, which is why your seeing that. I'm not complaining though as the cash price I paid was a steal. Personally I think theres enough thread depth even with the 14mm radius for it not to be a concern.

I was lucky that my 16" rims have the correct offset, i already had fitted 20mm spacers and longer studs! Grrr Looks the dogs! And handles terrific

I've gone done the same route as Andy Syncro-nutz except that I use VW T5 16in rims (very cheap - £30-50 for four practically new, see eBay) with a PCD adapter of 23mm thickness giving an ET of 28

Might have to look out for some of them. After ordering his Caravelle with steel wheels (all T5 caravelles are ment to have alloys) he keeps moaning he wants to "try" alloys as he's not happy with the ride - too ferm aparently. I think he's confusing wheels with the fact the suspension is tuned to make a vehicle caperble of about 120mph safe to use near such speeds rather than wobble around like something 20 years older with lower top speed, just like any other modern vehicle.

Thanks for that Andy - Apparently Lars had 5 sets at van Fest in total i had the last set as you know - but you had the last of the nuts so he sent mine on to me ( on the back of a camel i think- took an age to get here )- and so they were larger than the ones that came off the bog standard VW Mefros - though i checked the thread last night and its fine Cheer's. I owe you another Kebab thingy now !!! Steve.

Ah sorry SANDMAN, didn't read back up enough, good to know they can be got for about £80 fitted, been making enquiries and not found that deal yet...
