I have just got home from work and when i pulled up in second gear I put the clutch in and it wouldn't roll backwards. I also tried the same in first. Is this a sign of impending doom???

I should say so....

Cant expect a gearbox thats 15+years and xxxK miles old to last when you start putting 2x the torque and power through it..... the true cost of a scooby conversion will show...  (TDI cost is even more)

Have a word with the chap below.....

I think it may have been towing MrCampcharlie out of the mud at Oktoberfest. Only after your technical expertise.

Ah well if you been "using" it, then that might not help... but if the lever wont move if the engine is off then its more than a clutch problem..... thats a cracked sysncro hub... been giving it welly in 1st/2nd?????

Right have checked it out all the gears work fine whilst driving and at a standstill with the engine off. When i park nose first on a slight incline its almost as if the back wheels lock up and it is slightly more difficult to get out of gear.
How will this go and how will it die?
Cheers for any advice.

Difficult to get out of gear when on a slope??? with engine running or off?

You sure the clutch is not dragging.. ie engine running and difficult/graunchy to get into gear when stationary.. when pulling away, on the move with very little foot off the clutch?

Slightly more difficult to get it out of gear after trying to roll back with the engine running. I don't think it's nhe clutch it pulls away and drives ok.

Surely if the clutch is dragging it would be difficult and noisy to get into first gear. Not wishing to be toffee nosed about it but surely a dragging clutch is just about the easiest malady to diagnose. Or am I missing something here?
Cheers
