fat back tyres

Hello all, I've just fitted a set of 944 wheels on my 87 multivan and I'm running 225/55/16 at the moment. I'm looking to put some fatter back tyres on something like 255s, will they fit or will I need to modify the rear linkage to get them in? If they won't fit what size can I get away with?

I have 235's on the rear of mine with no spacers and it just touches the slider so anything above that will definetly need an extended hinge easy to do on a <84 bus otherwise a pain in the rear.

surely that would depend on wheel offset? I run 255s on an 8.5" rim with no issues at all.

I have 215's on the front and 235's on the back with space to spare
unless the previous owner has extended the door slider

mystery caller do you have any pics of your wheels

as said above it really does all depend on the offset of your wheels.

i have the d90 porsche wheels on my bus and the tyres are 225 but there is room for a little more but not much.....

You got 25mm spacers Jay? Isn't there room behind the wheel to go back? I always thought that anyway - having a few probs working out how to fit my 18" x 285's on the back meself, not really wanting the hinge mod and bashing my lushly repaired van like...
Probably gonna get set of 4 front wheels somehow instead...

20mm on the front peet and 25mm on the rear. there isnt a hell of a lot of space left, and i like you didnt want to do the hinge mod which is why im sticking with these rims!!
