Hi,
I only have the ignition key for my t25. Do I need to replace all the handles with new lock cylinders or is there a kit around that will replace all with one key?

speak to simon at brickwerks, pretty sure he can "one key" all your locks

strip all your barrels down and rebuild to suit your ign key fiddly but possible

I hadn't thought of that, and as a full time locksmith I probably should have, dohh. Have you tried this. I assumed they were traditional cylinders with up to 10 flat pins. Can you work it back like a mortice?

Untill 3 months ago I had'nt seen the inside of a lock barrel,the only problem I found was if the brass plates (if thats what you call them) were worn the key would'nt turn .I found it handy having a few donor barrels lying around

one of the links mentions that older vw dealers have key code books that if I get the key numbers from inside the locks they can source the keys for me.
Has anyone done this?
Also does anyone know a vw dealer who has been around for he last 30 years?

Hi Jon,
I lost my keys earlier this year and ended up having new keys made to fit my existing locks (based on the 4 digit code on the locks themselves). My local VW dealer was NOT very helpful (only wanted to sell me new lock set for £££), however found a fantastic local master locksmith who was able to do it for me (Stokes & Sons, Cheltenham) - cost £10 each key, cut whilst I waited.

that's great, I had been struggling to find someone to make the keys from the code. I will give them a shout.

I do them all the time.
I have a massive bag of tumblers and springs etc.
Also an ultrasonic bath to clean the barrel with.
Post me the lock and the key you want it to work with with a note saying who you are, once done I will weigh the bag, ring you for your card details and post them back.
Tumbler sets cost £7.50 per lock, plus labour to do it.
I'm £35 an hour, so if one lock takes me 20 mins thats...
£7.50 in tumblers and springs
£11.67 in labour.

Thats £19.17 plus VAT is £22.52 per lock-ish, plus postage..

thanks simon, but i'm the difficult bugger in Guernsey who's going to cause you all the paperwork!!
I need to sort all the external doors. In my work (I'm a locksmith) I have rebuilt other cylinder style locks, so if I can't get the key from the number I'm going to give it a go myself, then when I've balls'd it up I'll pack them up and get them to you!
