2 electrical cables not connected on gearbox?

Hi All,

Recently had clutch replaced.
Just had slave cylinder go.
Got under van to take a peeky at the slave cylinder.
Noticed that from the side of the gearbox (atleast thats what I think it is), there is a terminal connector with no cable coming out of it - found the errant cable hanging down - 2 spade connectors on it.

Will check out the Haynes manual (just had it - I'm notoroius for losing something in seconds) but anyone know what is this for? What happens if not connected? Which spade goes on which terminal?

Van is a 1983 1.9DG petrol water cooled 4 speed box.

Cool - many thanks! That would explain why I've never had any reversing lights!
I'll sort that out once slave cylinder done.

I not sure they are an MOT requirement.

I suspect that they are disconnected because they come on in one or more forward gears..............I'd check before you simply drive off

Probably won't make it to F&G Em. Garage has had a sicky called in - they said in the week to call them when I had the slave cylinder in me paws - got it yesterday - took day off work today - rang them @ 8am. Only to be told due to a sicky, they can't fit me in until Monday.

Not relishing Rachaels tears when she gets in from school.... Nothing to stop us popping down for the day tomorrow though in the beemer I guess (stuff the trailer tent this time - it was c-o-l-d at Apps Court in that lol)

top the fluid up and it will get you there, and back after a top up.

if you are attempting it yourself, be very gentle with the hydrolid pipe to it, they just fall to bits when you least expect it!!!!!!!

its not a hard job, the bleeding bit is easy, once its all piped up, take the bleed nipple out, fill the res and go have a coffee, come back put nipple in and it should have filled up on its own pretty much...... just keep a eye on the res level while you sip the coffee!!!

Its quite bad Steve - I top it up in the morning before I go to work. When I get home its empty again, so I top it up again.
On my 3rd bottle of clutch fluid...
Not sure it would make it - but I think if it did make it there, some nice club80-90 chaps or chappesses can help fit it with me

it will leak more when not using the van than driving.......

its not far for you to the F&G is it, i recon you'll make it........
but its a risk i guess, the biggest risk is breaking the pipe when changing it...... cant say who is there who could help, ive never been- something always gets in the way of me getting there, mostly money!!

Ok ok...so reverse lights aren't part of MOT!! :D

You learn sommat new every day. :D

Mocki, Fox and goose is about 1.5 hours from here....about 80miles, and motorway. I personally wouldn't be brave enough to drive it like that, in case the thing went from leaking to giving up the ghost completely......
